OIL CITY, Pa. – Healthy Kids Running Series kicked off this Sunday with 33 runners age 2-14 in Hasson Heights. The program is hosted by the Oil City YMCA.

Healthy Kids Running Series is a five week non-profit youth running program created by Jeff Long, the organization’s founder and president. The program is designed to combat childhood obesity while providing children with a positive, educational and fun introduction to the world of running.

Race distances are age appropriate with the youngest runners completing a 50 yard dash to the oldest runners completing one mile run.

Races are scheduled at 4:30 p.m. each Sunday.

Four races remain on April 9, 23, 30, and May 7.

The cost is $10.00 per race or $35.00 for the full series. The $35.00 fee includes an athletic tee and water bottle while supplies last.

At the completion of the series, each participant receives a medal, and trophies will be awarded to the top boy and girl based on total points from each race.
