Franklin Woman Held for Court on Charges for False Rape Accusation

FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — A Franklin woman was held for court on Wednesday on charges stemming from an incident where she allegedly falsely accused her boyfriend of rape.

Court documents indicate the following charges against 44-year-old Joann Marie Cochenour, of Franklin, were held for court on Wednesday, November 14:

– False Report — Falsely Incriminate Another, Misdemeanor 2
– Unsworn Falsification to Authorities, Misdemeanor 2

The charges have been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

Cochenour remains free on $1,000.00 unsecured bail.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, on September 22, Joann Cochenour called Venango County 9-1-1 to report that she was raped by her boyfriend.

Patrolman Floor, of the Franklin Police Department, responded to a residence on Atlantic Avenue and found Cochenour inside the house with her boyfriend. She was extremely intoxicated, according to the complaint.

Cochenour was transported to UPMC Northwest for a rape kit.

Through an extensive investigation, it was determined that Cochenour was lying about the rape and falsely accused her boyfriend, according to the complaint.

Charges were filed on October 15, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office.
