Heavy Rain Causes Issues Throughout the Region

VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) — Though the region seems to have avoided major flooding, the wet weather and continued rain has caused some minor issues.

A representative of Venango County Emergency Management reported there have been no official reports of flooding in Venango County; although, they did receive a report of a tree down on State Route 8 near Interstate 80.

State Route 268 was closed between Foxburg and Emlenton due to a tree and utility lines down and obstructing the roadway.

According to a PennDOT representative, they expected the road to reopen between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

Clarion County also fared well, with no flooding officially reported, according to a representative of Clarion County 9-1-1. However, they did receive several calls about trees down in the Parker area along the river.

According to PennDOT, Route 2009, Lawsonham Road, is closed between Toby Shed Road and Huey Road in Clarion County.

According to a PennDOT representative, they estimated Route 268 to reopen between 4:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., but do not have an estimate for when Lawsonham Road will reopen.

While Venango and Clarion haven’t seen many issues with flooding, Jefferson County received reports throughout the morning.

According to a representative of Jefferson County Department of Emergency Services, the intersection of Pike Road and Beaver Road in Henderson Township remains closed due to flooding, while a segment of State Route 950 in Winslow Township that was closed due to flooding this morning has reopened.

Jefferson County 9-1-1 has also received multiple calls of trees and power lines down throughout the county.

Summerville Mayor Robert Rupp noted there is also some minor flooding on the south end of Water Street in Summerville.

In the wider region, there were many road closures due to weather:

Armstrong County

  • Route 3007, Glade Run Road, is closed from Route 128 in Cadogan Township and Pony Farm Road in North Buffalo Township
  • Route 4035, Craigsvile Road, is closed in West Franklin Township between Airport Road and Old Butler Road
  • Route 3013 Mushroom Farm Road, is closed between Route 422 and Fenelton Road in West Franklin Township
  • Route 56 is closed between Gobblers Run Road in South Bend Township and Shady Plain Road in Kiskiminetas Township
  • Route 1035 – a lane restriction is in place in Boggs Township between Dill Road and Elkin Road due to a slide
  • Route 1032 is closed between Route 1031 ad Ridge Road in Boggs Township

Butler County

  • Route 268 is closed between Route 68 in Fairview Township, Butler County and Route 38 in Emlenton Borough, in Venango County
  • Route 3028, Hartmann Road, is closed between Route 528 in Forward Township, and Seneca School Road in Jackson Township.
  • Route 38 is closed at the Hohn Farm Road intersection in Oakland Township

Indiana County

  • Route 56 closed between Route 711, Charles Road and Trindle Road in East Wheatfield Township
  • Route 422 is closed between Route 210 in Plumcreek Township and Anthony Run Road in Armstrong Township (Armstrong and Indiana County)
  • SR 403 is closed between Route 286 in Clymer Borough and Allison Road in Green Township
  • Route 1032, Arcadia Road, is closed between Route 286 and Cherry Tree Road in Montgomery Township
  • Route 2013, Wehrum Road, is closed be5ween River Road and Rager Road in East Wheatfield Township
  • Route 1014 Wandin Road, is closed between Starford Road and Hill Road in Green Township
  • Route 580 is closed between Cherry Road in Green Township and Mahoning Road in Cherry Tree Borough
  • Route 3056, Ridge Avenue, is closed between Route 286 and Rustic Lodge Road in Center Township
  • Route 954 is closed between Saint Clair Road in White Township and Fairman Roof Trusses Road in Washington Township
  • Route 1022, Sebring Road is closed between Purchase Line Road in Green Township and Route 286 in Montgomery Township

Mercer County

  • Methodist Road (Route 4019) in Sugar Grove Township, Mercer County, is closed due to flooding. The road is closed from the intersection with Beatty School Road to the intersection with Salem Road.

PennDOT cautions motorists to never drive through flooded roadways, as it takes just two feet of fast-moving water to float a car. Anyone who drives around barriers intended to close a road can face increased penalties if emergency responders are called to rescue motorists who disregard traffic control signs.

Turn around, don`t drown. Most flood fatalities occur in vehicles.

The Flood Warning issued by the National Weather Service of Pittsburgh for Clarion, Jefferson, and Venango Counties expired at 12:30 p.m. today.
