Heeter Nets 1,000th Point; Records Double-Double in Clarion U. Women’s Basketball Loss to WV State

INSTITUTE, W. Va. — Hannah Heeter recorded her 44th career double-double and scored her 1,000th career point, but it wasn’t enough for the Clarion University women’s basketball team which dropped a 68-58 decision at West Virginia State in the MEC/PSAC Challenge Saturday afternoon.

Heeter had a game-high 21 points and 16 rebounds, her second consecutive 15-rebound effort and her school-record 27th 15th-rebound game and finished the game with 1,011 career points scoring her 1,000th point with 9:44 left in the first half. At the time, Heeter had all 10 of Clarion’s points in the game, as the Golden Eagles trailed 23-10 after West Virginia St. started the game on a 19-4 run.

That 19-4 early advantage helped West Virginia St. take a 36-22 halftime lead with Heeter scoring 14 of Clarion points.

West Virignia St. then started the second half on a 10-1 run to take a 46-23 lead with 14:54 left.

The lead grew to 59-32 with 9:17 to play, before Clarion (0-2) got hot going on a 10-0 spurt that started a game-ending 26-11 run.

During the late run, Jasmine Boyd had all eight of her points, she added four rebounds, while Delrika Jones-Carey added seven of her nine tallies. Jones-Carey also had a career-best 10 rebounds.

Tania Holmes added seven points for Clarion, while Amesha Harden-Pullium had three point, four assists and two steals.

Deyhanna Syles paced West Virginia St. with 17 points, while Alexus Hobbs added 15 points, nine rebounds, three assists and three blocks and Shealyn Shaffer 15 points and five rebounds while shooting 7 of 11.

Clarion returns to action at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday when it starts PSAC West play at Pitt-Johnstown.
