Helen Irene McHenry, 87, of New Bethlehem died Thursday afternoon, February 9, 2017 surrounded by her family at the Clarview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sligo.

Born July 28, 1929, in Cottage Hill, she was the daughter of Frank and Blanche (Farringer) Pence.

She graduated from Porter High School. She was the former wife of Russ McHenry and worked hard as a farmer’s wife, and in her later years, she was a cook at the Clarion Clipper and Beverly Health Care in Clarion. She was of Protestant faith.

Mrs. McHenry loved her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, crocheting, painting, and tending to her yard and her many flowers.

Survivors include three daughters and one son, Barb Brown (Denny) of Curllsville; Denny McHenry (Linda); Lee Ann Ishman (Ray), both of New Bethlehem; and Patty Dean of Punxsutawney; nine grandchildren: Mike Brown (Ori) of Gilroy, CA.; Paul Brown (Doris) of New Bethlehem; Jeff Brown (Terri) of Dike, IA.; Jessie Brocious; Todd McHenry (Christy); Matt McHenry (Shawna), all of New Bethlehem; Bridget Shaffer (Cory) of Westminster, CO.; Mandy McWhirter (Rob) of Wexford; and Danielle Gearhart (Buddy) of Punxsutawney; thirteen great grandchildren, a brother, Wayne Pence of Elizabethtown; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Chesnut (Ron); a sister-in-law, Karen Pence; and companion, Merle Brosius.

Visitation will be on Sunday, February 12, 2017, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn.

Visitation will also be held on Monday, February 13, 2017 from 10 to 11 a.m. with the funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Jodie Smith officiating. Interment will be in the Herman Cemetery, Porter Township, Clarion Country.
