Helen (Irwin) Grettler lived exceptionally for 103 years. She passed peacefully on April 7, 2017. What a blessing from her creator!
Born in Franklin, PA to Neil D. Irwin and Loda Priscilla (Fisher) Irwin.
She was the only daughter among four brothers.
She was married to Carl Henry Grettler for 65 years. All preceded her in death, in addition to her great-grandson, Cody Martin; son-in-law, Frederick Mong; and a great-great-granddaughter, Riley Lynn Mong.
She is survived by three children, Helen Jane Mong of Logan, Terry (Sue) Grettler of Roanoke, VA, and Fae (Bob) Thompson of Clarion, PA. Others include a half-sister, Susanne Saunders of Titusville, PA and several nieces and nephews
Thankfully, in her lifetime, she was able to enjoy seven grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Spending some 90 years of her life in Franklin, PA, she was a faithful member of the Rocky Grove Presbyterian Church, serving as church organist and pianist.
She was also a life member and pianist for the Order of the Eastern Star.
She retired from Polk Center, in the Music Department, teaching special needs students.
Under her leadership, students participated in many musical productions and parades with the marching band.
At age 90 she moved to Logan, Ohio to be closer to her family members.
Her years in Logan provided many new friendships and an opportunity to continue her passion for music.
She inspired other to “Feel The Beat” by performing violin concerts and providing piano music to the nursing homes.
She became a member of the Logan Presbyterian Church.
Helen will always be remembered for her gracious and beautiful spirit, always embracing happiness, deep humility and faithful devotion to her family and her Lord and Savior.
In lieu of calling hours, the family will be hosting a Celebration of Life for family and friends on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the Bowen House, located in Logan, Ohio, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
There will be food, music, sharing and laughter to celebrate a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Helen Grettler “Got Music” Endowment Fund, established in 2013, through the Foundation for Appalachian Ohio.
Helen was delighted that her family established the fund to forever share her story, passion, and love for music to inspire others in Hocking County, regardless of their age, to pursue their performing arts dreams.
