Helen Joan Ward Marki , born July 24,1931, died Sunday, July 16, 2017, surrounded by family in her beloved home.

She was daughter of the late Joseph C. Ward and Violet Rose McClain.

She was a 1949 graduate of St. Joseph’s and attended Grant Street school for grades 1-4. As was typical, she was very involved in high school activities including cheerleading, Class Secretary 1948 and Class Treasurer 1949. She was also involved in Choir and Sodality.

She is survived by her husband, Jacob E. (Jim) Marki whom she married in St. Joseph’s on December 27, 1952 with the service performed by Fr. Mitchell.

Surviving also, a daughter Susan Sherman and her husband Dave Porter, of Columbus, Ohio.

Susan’s care and devotion to her mother was selfless and rooted in deep love and appreciation and made her final days comfortable.

Sons James of Hollywood, Florida and David and his wife Tina of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. She is also survived by granddaughters Eryn Sherman and Julia Marki, a grandson Michael Bryant, his wife Liz and their children Morgan and Liam.

Joan’s first job was with Sears Roebuck followed by a long career at Prudential Bache where she retired. She continued working for Dr. Richard Dunlap, D.D.S. and as a financial assistant to Dan Fry.

Before her illness, she was a member of Venango Chorus, Salvation Army and Gallivanter’s.

Also, deeply involved with the St. Joseph’s Rosary Society.

With a fierce yet subtle faith, she was a Lector, Greeter, Medjugorje Prayer Group member. She was devoted to the Pro-Life movement and her quiet charitable acts of sacrifice and giving were known by few but appreciated by the many she touched.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family with the passing of her brothers Thomas and Daniel Ward. She was also proceeded in death by her son-in-law Rob Sherman, her son Michael and her Grandson Leland Marki.

Those among us who saw the beauty of Joan became her closest friends.

Her “girlfriends” brought her immense joy and happiness with an endless supply of love, generosity and caring. You were always there for her until the end. She loved you all like sisters and was so appreciative of her good fortune to have so many great friends. A special thanks to you wonderful friends from her Family.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Tuesday July 18 at St.Joseph’s Church at 11:00 AM followed by a luncheon to be announced.

Fr. John Miller, Pastor will preside.
