Henry Michael “Hank” Hufnagel, II

Henry Michael “Hank” Hufnagel, II, of Clarion, passed away on June 28, 2018, at the Clarion Hospital following a brief illness. He was 73 years of age.

Born on June 26, 1945, in Buffalo, New York, he was the son of the late Leon C. and Jeanne A. (Cousins) Hufnagel. He graduated from Clarion-Limestone High School and obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the Pennsylvania State University.

Hank served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Viet Nam era. In 1978, he married the former Pamela Piateski, who survives.

Hank was a software developer and publisher. He also wrote and published several books with local Clarion County themes, including “Toby’s Curse” and “Buck’s Loot”. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church in Clarion and the Clarion County Historical Society. He frequently gave talks to local groups on historical topics.

He and his family enjoyed taking trips to various historic sites and museums around the country and National parks. They also enjoyed travel to exotic places when they could.

Hank would pursue his passions and follow his dreams. Recently, he enjoyed gardening and growing dahlias. He was looking forward to seeing them bloom this year.

Hank was a dedicated Boy Scout. He earned his Eagle Scout as a member of Clarion Troop 51 when he was in his youth. Later, he would be instrumental in getting that troop started again in Clarion and would serve as a Scout Master for many years.

He is survived by his wife; his son, Peter Hufnagel, of Seattle, WA; his siblings, Lee Hufnagel and wife Pam, of Charlottesville, VA, Ellen Long and husband Clayton, of Englewood, FL, Kate Hufnagel, of Lancaster, PA, David Hufnagel, of Clarion, and Molly Westmoreland of Forest Grove, OR; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition, he is survived by his mother-in-law, Doris Piateski; his sister-in-law, Anne Evans; and his brother-in-law, Jim Piateski.

Arrangements are under the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Church, 715 Main Street, Clarion, with Father Monty Sayers officiating. Interment will be in the Clarion Cemetery.
