Herbert H. “Russ” Campbell, Jr., age 76, of Rimersburg, PA, passed away peacefully, Saturday, December 29, 2012 at his home.

He was born on January 12, 1936 in St. Charles, PA, the son of Herbert H. Campbell, Sr. and Dorthy (Laughlin) Campbell.

Herb was raised in Rimersburg by his foster parents Russell and Ida (White) Hartman. He attended Union Joint High School and graduated in 1954. After graduation Herb proudly joined the Army in 1955 and was a private first class in Korea during peacetime.

When Herb returned from the service he married Shirley Bish on June 19, 1959. He went on to work as a Rigger for Indspec for 29 years retiring in 1998. Herb was a member and was very active in the First United Methodist Church serving on the Board of Trustees and attending the Fidelis Sunday school class with his wife for many years. Herb was also, a member of the Rimersburg Lions Club, the Rimersburg American Legion Post 454 where he previously served as Chaplain and the VFW Post 7132.

Herb was a great Union High School sports fan. He avidly followed all football, basketball and volleyball teams, both boys and girls. He even had a special seat for the basketball games. Herb enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa and his family will always remember his loving spirit, his passion to volunteer and his willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Shirley (Bish) Campbell with whom he shared 53 years of marriage; one son, Scott Campbell and wife Colleen; one daughter, Brenda (Campbell) Kifer and husband James, all of Rimersburg; four grandchildren, Derick Fowler, Alan Fowler, Jason Kifer and wife Erin and Dustin Kifer and wife Kelli; six great-grandchildren, Brennah, Taylor, Andrew, Emma, Addison and Ava, one great-granddaughter Olivia who will be born any day and a half-sister, Deanna Harris and her husband Don of Beaver, PA.

Herb was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Dorthy Campbell; his foster parents, Russell and Ida Hartman; his step-mother Irene (Barndollar) Campbell; a foster brother, Raymond Hartman; a foster sister, Iva Hollobaugh and a half-brother, Michael Campbell.

Relatives and friends will be received from 2-4 PM and 6-9 PM on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at the Bauer-Hillis Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 758 Main Street, Rimersburg, PA.

Additional visitation will take place from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, January 3, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 399 Main St, Rimersburg, with the Rev. Dennis A. Fetter officiating, where military honors will be presented by the Rimersburg American Legion Post 454 and the VFW Post 7132.

Burial will follow at Rimersburg Cemetery, Rimersburg, Clarion Co., PA,
