Homicide Charges Filed Against Venus Man in 2015 Death of Edinboro Student

| July 19, 2017

ERIE, Pa. (EYT) – A Venus man is facing murder charges in Erie County stemming from an incident that occurred in March of 2015.

According to court documents, new charges were filed against 22-year-old Devin Lewis Stevenson, of Venus, in relation to the shooting death of O’Shae Imes on March 20, 2015, in Edinboro.

Stevenson was arraigned at 10:25 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, on one count of Criminal Homicide, a first-degree felony.

He also faces charges of aggravated assault, possession with intent to deliver, carrying a firearm without a license, recklessly endangering, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to Erie County District Attorney Jack Daneri, the homicide charge was filed after his office received the autopsy results from Rochester, N.Y.

Stevenson is accused of shooting Imes at an apartment in Edinboro.

According to an article on GoErie.com, Edinboro Police say Stevenson was there to sell drugs to Imes and another man Andrew Baker, who was also shot. Stevenson claims he fired in self-defense because they were trying to rob him.

The Erie County DA’s office withdrew the original charges in 2016 after Imes died on March 19, 2016, in Rochester, N.Y.

“Once we got the report on his cause and manner of death, we decided to file homicide charges,” Daneri said. “The report said the man died due to complications secondary to his gunshot wounds.”

Stevenson was a second-year student at Edinboro at the time of the shooting incident. He was suspended after the incident and banned from the Edinboro campus.

Imes and Baker were also students at Edinboro University.

Stevenson is lodged in the Erie County Jail without bail.

According to court records, Stevenson’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. on August 1 in front of District Judge Denise Stuck-Lewis.

Baker, 22, of Wilmington, Del., was also charged with conspiracy to commit robbery; however, he has not been arraigned.
