Ida jayne smithIda Jayne Middendorf Smith, 90, of Sycamore Rd., Karns City, formerly of Boyers, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the home of her daughter, while surrounded by her loving family.

Ida Jayne was born in Boyers on January 21, 1927. She was the daughter of Charles N. and Edna E. Cooper Middendorf.

Ida Jayne was a graduate of Grove City High School.

Mrs. Smith was a longtime active member of the Boyers United Methodist Church, where she had served as a trustee and participated in the church’s apple butter fundraiser.

At the time of her passing, she was the church’s oldest member.

Ida Jayne also enjoyed volunteering with Meals on Wheels, and cooking.

She was a member of Grove City AARP, Tiny Angels, and the P.S.E.A.

She retired from the cafeteria staff at Moniteau High School following 30 years of service.

In 1989, Mrs. Smith received an award for 50 years of consecutive voting.

Ida Jayne was married on May 26, 1948 in Grove City to Richard W. Smith. Mr. Smith preceded her in death on December 6, 1996. She is survived by three daughters, N. Darlene Morgan, of New Castle, J. Marlene Smith, of Harrisburg, Kathryn Harmon and her husband, Mike, of Karns City; six grandchildren, Lisa Maun and her husband, Duane, of Enola, Bryan Harmon and his wife, Jaime, of Freeport, Timothy Gove, of Harrisburg, Andrew Harmon and his wife, Adrienne, of East Brady, Christopher Harmon, of Karns City, and Nicole Price and her husband, Christopher, of Butler; three great-grandchildren, Madison, Riley, and Gretta Harmon. Ida Jayne is also survived by two sisters-in-law, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Donald Morgan, and four brothers, Charles, Ralph, Floyd, and Russell Middendorf.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Karns City, 128 Main Street, Karns City from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday.

A funeral service will be held from the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Jim Lewis, pastor of the Karns City United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment will be at Crestview Memorial Park in Grove City.

Memorial contributions in Mrs. Smith’s name may be made to the Visiting Nurses Assoc. Hospice of Western PA, 154 Hindman Road, Butler, PA 16001.
