FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – An inmate at the Venango County Jail waived his hearing on new charges Wednesday after he allegedly claimed and signed for another inmate’s commissary.

Court documents indicate the the following criminal charges against 44-year-old Jason Michael Urbassik, were waived for court on Wednesday, November 6:

– Theft By Unlawful Taking-Movable Property, Misdemeanor 2
– Receiving Stolen Property, Misdemeanor 2

The charges have been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office, around 2:18 p.m. on October 22, Trooper Brownlee, of the Franklin-based State Police, was dispatched to the Venango County Jail for a report of a theft by an inmate.

Trooper Brownlee contacted a corrections officer who stated that the victim had returned from Butler, where he was being housed, and asked for his commissary, but he discovered it had already been claimed.

The corrections officer then reviewed the video and observed that Jason Michael Urbassik claimed the victim’s commissary and signed for it, according to the complaint.

Urbassik allegedly admitted to another corrections officer that he took the commissary, the complaint continues.

He was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 2:00 p.m. on October 28.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, with Judge Kirtland presiding.

Court documents indicate Urbassik was lodged in the Venango County Jail in relation to a case involving the theft of signs from the Venango Region Airport. That case is continuing to make its way through the court system.
