CLARION, Pa. – Clarion Director of Athletics Dr. Wendy Snodgrass announced this week that the university has removed the interim tag from D.J. Bevevino, naming him Associate Athletic Director.

Bevevino served as Interim Assistant Athletic Director since July 1, 2016.

“After his years of coaching and now serving as an administrator, I am pleased to have the opportunity to introduce D.J. as our Associate Athletic Director,” Snodgrass said. “He has deep roots in the university and the Clarion community and is passionate about the direction of Golden Eagle athletics. I am glad he’ll continue to be here with us for years to come.”

A Clarion alumnus and former All-American diver, Bevevino served as head women’s track & field coach from 2009-16 as well as the head women’s cross country coach from 2010-14. He coached a number of successful individual student-athletes, including 2016 United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches of America (USTFCCCA) All-Region Track and Field selections Kristen Belko and Tatiana Cloud and 2013 Cross Country selections and NCAA National Outdoor Track and Field qualifiers Ciara Shorts and Megan Toddy. Bevevino coached two-time All-American Kim Hanslovan, who placed second and sixth in the Javelin in the 2010 and 2012 NCAA Outdoor National Track & Field Championships, respectively.

Bevevino, who retired as the vice-principal at Clarion High School in January 2010, was the highly successful head boys’ track and field coach at Clarion High School from 1990-94 and again from 1996-2008. He led the Bobcats’ boys’ track and field team to back-to-back PIAA state championships in 2000 and 2001 while also leading Clarion to five District 9 championships and multiple conference titles. He also coached two relay teams and two individuals to state titles and had numerous District 9 and PIAA State qualifiers and medalists.

A 1977 graduate of Clarion with a bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education/Science, Bevevino was an eight-time All-American diver for the Golden Eagles. Upon graduation from Clarion, Bevevino worked as a high school teacher, guidance counselor and administrator, eventually becoming a guidance counselor at Clarion High School in August 1989. While at Clarion, he also served a stint as Dean of Students and was the athletic director for 12 years (1995-2004 & 2007-08). While athletic director he became a Certified Athletic Administrator. Bevevino also served on the PIAA District 9 committee, the governing board of the district, for four years (2001-04).
