IRWIN TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Police say three people were taken to Grove City Hospital by ambulance following a crash on I-80 in Irwin Township early Sunday morning.

According to police, around 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, June 17, 21-year-old Chelsea R. Lee, of Knox, was operating a 2013 Hyundai Accent, traveling eastbound in the right lane of travel on Interstate 80 near mile marker 31 in Irwin Township.

At the same time, 56-year-old Daniel M. Morris, of Cleveland Heights, OH, was operating a 2003 Dodge Grand Caravan, also traveling eastbound in the right lane of travel on Interstate 80 in Irwin Township.

Police say Lee fell asleep and her vehicle struck Morris’ vehicle from behind.

Morris brought his vehicle to a controlled stop on the southern berm of the roadway.

Lee’s vehicle left the roadway via the south berm, impacting the roadside ditch with its front end. It came to final rest in the roadside ditch, facing east.

Lee was wearing a seatbelt. Her passenger — 20-year-old Janelle R. Merryman, of Shippenville — was not wearing a seatbelt. A one-year-old female passenger was properly restrained in a front-facing child-safety seat.

Lee, Merryman, and the juvenile passenger suffered suspected minor injuries and were transported to Grove City Hospital via Superior Ambulance.

Morris and his passengers — 57-year-old Myra B. Morris, of Cleveland Heights, OH, and a 14-year-old male — were wearing seatbelts and were not injured.

Lee’s vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage, and both front airbags were deployed.

Morris’ vehicle sustained damage to its rear portion. None of its airbags were deployed.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene via Hovis Auto Wrecking.

Clintonville Fire Department assisted at the scene.

Lee was charged with a traffic violation.
