Jack E. White, 69, of Franklin, passed away at 3:47 A.M. Sunday, December 3, 2017, at Fairview Manor in Fairview.

Born in Oil City on February 20, 1948, he was the son of Dorothy M. Sampsell White and the late Clair M. “Jack” White.

He was a 1966 graduate of Franklin High School where he was the starting quarterback for the 1965 8-1 Varsity Football Team. Jack then graduated in 1970 from Slippery Rock University with a Bachelor’s degree in History. In 1970 he began teaching at Cranberry Area High School and taught there his entire career until retirement.

Jack was an intelligent, articulate and outgoing individual. He was popular and well known in this area and always enjoyed the company of others. Jack always had a book to read and discuss.

In his younger years, Jack enjoyed outdoor activities including year-round backpacking, canoeing and cross-country skiing. He also remained a familiar figure on many area golf courses.

Jack loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his mother Dorothy White; a son, Beau White and his wife Ashley of Marion, IN; two grandchildren, Jack and Marley White; three sisters, Suzanne White of Oil City, Bonnie Baker of Cochranton and Lisa White of Franklin; three nephews, William Struthers and his wife Donna and their children, Arwen, Theo and Eleanor, Joseph Struthers and his wife Brenda and their children Brad, Shiloh and Hunter, Stacy Parker and Brent Baker and his daughter, Sophia.

Also, surviving are his many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Family and friends welcome from 10:00 A.M. – 10:45 A.M. Saturday at Huff Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 312 West Park St. Franklin.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. James R. Leichliter, Pastor of First Church of God of Franklin, officiating.

Interment will be at Lupher Chapel Cemetery.
