James A MyersJames A. Myers, 92, of Cherry Run Rd., Rouseville, went to be with the Lord Saturday morning, January 28, 2017 at Oil City Healthcare.

James was born in Sligo on March 20, 1924. He was the son of the late Albert and Grace Greenawalt Myers.

Mr. Myers had a master plumber’s license and in his early years worked as a plumber with his father. He was later employed by General Electric in Erie and worked for thirteen years at Worthington in Oil City. He retired from Sears and Roebuck as a service technician following 22 years of service.

He was well known for making model airplanes from pop cans and gave many as gifts to family and friends. James was a proud and decorated veteran of World War II, shipping out from Camp McCall, N.C., with the 11 th Airborn Para-Gliders 188th Battalion, to the Philippines in the North Pacific, Leyte, Luzon and Biak Terminal 4th General Hospital. Mr. Myers earned 13 medals during his time in the service.

Mr. Myers had a great concern, compassion and caring for his fellow veterans. He and his wife spent many hours placing flags on veteran’s graves in various local cemeteries.

He and his wife also enjoyed traveling to Costa Rica, Canada, and Texas, and spending time with family and friends.

Jim enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was honored to be spotlighted in the “Nifty at Ninety” series in the Oil City Derrick in 2014.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy P. Aites Myers, whom he married in Oil City on June 18, 1946.

Also surviving are four children, Sherry L. Emick and her husband, Don, of the village of Plumer, James R. Myers and his wife, Kathy, of Kossuth, Thomas A. Myers of Oil City, and Cathy A. Schneider and her husband, Terry, of Oil City; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren; a sister, Carole E. Myers of Oil City, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Gary and Ronald Myers.

Friends will be received at the Hile-Best Funeral Home Inc., 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township from 2 — 4 and 7 — 9 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 31); and from 10 – 11 a.m. Wednesday (Feb. 1) at the Seneca Evangelical Congregational Church, 2844 Rte. 257 in Seneca, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Janor Bestwick, church pastor, and retired E.C. pastor, Rev. David Hart, officiating.

The VETS Honor Guard will accord full military honors following the funeral.

Private interment will be held at a later date in Shaw Farm Cemetery, Oil City.
