James E. “J.D.” Dick

James E. “J.D.” Dick, 66, of East Sandy Road in Kennerdell, Rockland Township, died Monday evening, January 1, 2018, at UPMC Northwest in Seneca shortly after his arrival to the emergency room.

He was born in Franklin on October 26, 1951, to Phyllis A. (McDaniel) Dick Snyder and the late James Samuel Dick.

Jim graduated from Cranberry High School with the class of 1969. He then enlisted and served in the U.S. Navy until 1974; he was stationed in Scotland.

He was a member of the Franklin V.F.W. and the Boilermakers Union Local #154.

Jim was an avid hunter, loved camping and gathering around a campfire, enjoyed mowing grass, classic cars, and the companionship of his dog, ‘Bear.’ Above all else, he was a loving husband and father who enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was a welder for most of his working life and was employed by Witherup Fabrication in Kennderdell, retiring in 2016.

Jim was married in Emlenton on September 28, 2012 to the former Karen S. Seidle, and she survives, along with his mother, Phyllis A. Snyder of Rockland; a daughter, Marci M. Miller and her husband Joseph of Rockland; four sons: Andrew J. Dick and his wife Billie Jo; and Jerry Manross and his wife Liza, all of Rockland; Dale Gosselin and his wife Rosanne of Ashtabula, Ohio; and Gary Gosselin of Ohio; and eleven beloved grandchildren: Justin, Joey, Chelsea, Brayden, Dasan, Lacey, Dakotah, Dallas, Garrett, Alex, and Sean.

Also surviving are his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don E. and Carol Seidle of Fredonia; two sisters-in-law, DeAnn Maurer of Fredonia and Lynda Shaw of Mercer; a brother-in-law, Don C. Seidle and his wife Jenny of Mercer; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by brothers-in-law, Carl Maurer and Doug Shaw; and his step-father, Garrett P. Snyder.

Friends and family will be received Saturday, January 6, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township, where a memorial service will follow Saturday at 2:00 p.m. The V.E.T.S. Honor Guard will accord full military honors and Rev. Allan Brooks, a family friend and a United Methodist pastor, will officiate.
