James W. Garland

James W. Garland Age 57, of Mount Lebanon, peacefully entered through the gates of Heaven on July 19, 2014.

He is the beloved husband of Gloria Garland (Smith); loving father of Evan (Karen), Tracee and Stephen Garland; son of Velma and the late Evan Garland; grandfather of Benjamin, Elena, Julia and Sophia Garland; brother of Barbara Collins, Beverly (John) Griswold and Debra (Albert) Bruneau. He was preceded in death by 3 grandsons and his sister, Carol Mallory. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

Jim was a humble and simple man that loved God. He was a very active member of South Hills of the Nazarene Church.

He had a successful career of 34 years as a teacher and coach. Jim knew what he wanted to do with his life and after high school he graduated from Slippery Rock University with a history degree and coaching certificate.

He went on to teach at Franklin Jr./Sr. High, Karns City High School, Cranberry High School and most recently, Mount Lebanon High School. While teaching, he also coached many different sports, including girl’s basketball. He won back to back state titles while coaching at Cranberry High School in 92 & 93.

Jim was well loved and will be missed by his family and friends.

Friends will be received on Friday from 2-7 pm at Paul L. Henney Memorial Chapel, Bethel Park.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, 11am, at the South Hills Church of the Nazarene.
