Jean Louise Bowser, age 85, of New Bethlehem, passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the Clarion Hospital, following an illness.

Born March 6, 1929 in Kittanning, she was the daughter of the late Zellar Alexander Anthony and Ethel May George Anthony.
She married Kenneth Leroy Bowser, Sr. on March 15, 1947 and he survives.

Jean and Ken bought the New Bethlehem Hotel in 1969 and, together, owned and operated the establishment until 2002.
She was a beautician and the owner and stylist for Jean Bowser’s Beauty Salon in New Bethlehem and, in past years, was also the dispatcher for the New Bethlehem Borough Police Department.

Jean was of the Presbyterian faith. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and enjoyed playing Bingo.

Survivors include three children: Sherry Lee Zadrozny of Clinton, Mississippi; Kenneth Bowser, Jr. and his wife, Shelby, of New Bethlehem and Randy Bowser and his wife, Sandra, also of New Bethlehem; eight grandchildren: Jackie Lee Armagost and his wife, Jennifer; Anthony Zadrozny and his wife, Heather; Chester Jack Zadrozny and his wife, Angie; Michael Bowser and his wife, Tracey; Carissa Bowser, Kelsey Bowser, Jordonna Bowser and Nathaniel Bowser.

Jean is also survived by ten great grandchildren: Margie Wilshire and husband, Eddie; Eryn Armagost, Zoe Armagost, Brock Zadrozny, Ethan Zadrozny, Kenner Zadrozny, Taylor Zadrozny, Whitt Zadrozny; Macy Bowser and Declan Bowser and two great great grandchildren: Makayla Couch and Jonus Wilshire.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Anthony; daughter-in-law, Kathy Bowser; two sons-in-law, Chester Jack Zadrozny and Robert Duane Armagost and father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Mary Bowser.
Family and friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Rupert Funeral Home and Cremation Service Chapel, 233 Penn Street, New Bethlehem.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 in the funeral home chapel with the Reverend Cyndy Dixon, pastor of the New Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, officiating over the service.

Interment will follow in the New Bethlehem Cemetery.
