Jennings “Jay” Best

Jennings “Jay” Best, age 57, of Knox, died Tuesday morning, March 1, 2016 at the Butler Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.

Born April 21, 1958 in Clarion, he was a son of Lemonta “Jane” Burns and the late Homer Best, Sr, his grandfather who adopted him.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy.

Jay was the owner and operator of the New-to-You secondhand shop in Clarion. He was a NASCAR racing fan and enjoyed spending time at his shop and with his family.

Survivors include his mother, Jane Burns of Clarion; his son, Levi Robert Jennings Best of Clarion; one brother, Tony Kapp and wife Amy of Cranberry; two sisters, Annette Roberts and husband Brad of Leeper and Donna Hill and husband Mike of San Antonio Texas.

Also surviving is his girlfriend, Peggy Strotman and her daughter, Summer, of Knox and five nephews and nieces: Wendy, Eric, Brittany, Joshua and Kalea.

Jay was preceded in death by his grandparents; one aunt, Wanda and two uncles, Charles and Jack.

There will be no calling hours.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction of the William N. Rupert Mortuary, Inc. of Knox.
