Jeremy Coast’s Memory Lives On with Muddy Run and Ride

| June 6, 2019

FRANKLIN, PA (EYT) – June 11th will mark the four year of the passing of Franklin native Jeremy Coast. At just 18 years old, Coast’s three year battle with leukemia came to an end at Pittsburgh’s Children’s Hospital in June of 2015.

In the four years that have elapsed since Coast’s passing, family and friends have ensured that Coast’s legacy will not be forgotten. The nonprofit, 519Strong, was established in Coast’s memory and have used methods ranging from scholarships to basketball games to honor the late Coast’s courageous battle.

Coast was a graduate of Franklin Area High School.

Last year, 519Strong established the annual 519Strong Mud Run 5K and Ride Day at Switchback Raceway in Butler. The location is fitting for honoring Coast who was passionate about the sport of motocross. This year’s race and ride is set to be held Saturday, June 8, beginning at 9:00 AM.

For event organizer and Franklin native, Devin Gold, Saturday’s 5K and ride day is a chance to bring people together at a place where Coast spent so much time himself, whether they are interested in navigating the trails on two wheels or two feet.

“We’re excited to offer the 5K again this year to reach out to more of the community outside of the motocross industry,” Gold told

Not your everyday 5K on a hard surface, Gold and 519Strong advertises the muddy run as a cross country trek across the raceway’s track that weaves through the woods.

Runners can register online by June 6th in order to receive a shirt and a discounted registration fee of $25. Registration for the event will run through the beginning of the race for $30. For those wishing to register on Saturday morning, gates will open at 7:00 AM.

A ride day pass can also be purchased online for the same rate. For those looking to take part in both, a combo pass can be purchased online for $40.

For Gold, Saturday’s events are more than just the running and racing. It is more about bringing together those who have fought similar battles as Coast did for three years.

“Everyone at 519Strong is passionate about their mission and are always excited to give support and encouragement to others facing similar circumstances so this event is not just for participants but for anyone who has similar struggles and looking for advice and friendships from those who have been there before.”

The race is slated to begin at 9:00 AM while the ride will begin at 10:00 AM.
