Jerry R. “Nood” McGarrity

Jerry R. “Nood” McGarrity, 62, of New Bethlehem, died Saturday, October 13, 2018, at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, surrounded by family, following an extended illness.

Born May 28, 1956, in Brookville, he was a son of Robert Edward McGarrity, Sr. and Mary Jane (Bailey). He married Janice L. “Jan” (Peppler) on March 4, 1978, and she preceded him in death on August 11, 2018.

Jerry worked for Crawford Furniture in Alcola until its closing, He was a security guard for various gas wells and the Butler Hospital. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed watching Pirate baseball, Little League games, especially the Little League World Series.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Jane McGarrity of New Bethlehem, his children, Angela D. Lufsey and husband, Curt, of New Bethlehem and Joseph R. McGarrity and wife Carrie of Mayport, six grandchildren, Cole and Shea Lufsey, Makayla, Makenna, Jace, and Jaxon McGarrity, three sisters, Carol Brown of New Bethlehem, Betty Malec (Timothy) of Ford City, Laura Keen (Randy) of Fairmount City, two brothers, Robert E. McGarrity, Jr. (Nell) of Renovo and Brian McGarrity (Dee) of Sligo, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert McGarrity, Sr. and his wife Janice L. “Jan” McGarrity.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, from, 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. Funeral services will be on Thursday, October 18, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the Oakland Church of God in Distant, with Pastor Jimmy Swogger officiating. Interment will be held in the Oakland Cemetery in Distant.

The family suggests in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jerry’s name to the New Bethlehem Little League, P.O. Box 23, New Bethlehem, Pa. 16242.
