John D. Wingard

John D. Wingard, 86, of Hearst Road, Shippenville, died Tuesday, May 29, at the UPMC Hamot in Erie.

Born in Shippenville on August 31, 1931, he was the son of the late Harry T. and Ruth V. Davis Wingard.

John was married to Audene Marie Kline on Aug. 10, 1951, and she preceded him in death on March 29, 1984. He then married Judith Ann Wilson Bish on Nov. 24, 1984, and she survives.

He was a Korean Veteran serving in the US Navy, member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Knox where he served as past president. John was a lifelong farmer, devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Surviving in addition to his wife, a son John D. Wingard Jr. and his wife Anita Fenichel of Sebastopol, CA, three daughters, Deborah A. Decker and husband Keith of Knox, Cynthia J. Cass of Buke, VA, Ruth I. Griebel and husband Bernard Jr. of Shippenville, one brother Herbert Wingard and his wife Bertel of Lafayette, Indiana, three sisters, Eunice Slye of Oil City, Fern Reese of Brookville, and Ida Edgar of O’Fallon, MO, a sister-in-law, Betty Lou Wingard of Roseburg, OR, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three stepchildren, Brenda Lee Bates and husband John of Waynesville, MO, Thomas Bish and wife Missi of Davenport, FL, and Patrick Bish and Wife Shanwna of Knox, as well as nine step-grandchildren, and four step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, four brothers, Mervin, Merritt, Alfred, and Stewart Wingard, and two sisters, Iris Carrier and Naomi Lewis.

The family will receive friends and family on Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, 330 Wood Street, Clarion, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday. Interment will take place at the Perry Chapel Cemetery. The Clarion American Post 66 will perform full military honors at the start of the service.
