John E. “Ed” Defibaugh

Member_157971[1]John E. “Ed” Defibaugh, 68, of Venus, Pinegrove Township, died Tuesday evening, February 23, 2016 at UPMC Hamot in Erie, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Foxburg on September 15, 1947 to Audean “Betty” (Smith) Defibaugh and the late John A. Defibaugh.

Ed was a 1965 graduate of Allegheny-Clarion Valley High School and earned an associate degree in 1989 from Edinboro University, majoring in manufacturing engineering.

He served in the Army National Guard.

Since 1979, Mr. Defibaugh was an official measurer of antlers and animal skulls for both the Boone and Crockett Club and the Pope and Young Club.

He was a member of Christ Fellowship Church in Venus.

Ed enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He was employed by Joy Manufacturing in Franklin, beginning as a mechanic, and retiring as a manufacturing engineer in 2011 after 43 years of service.

He was married in Franklin on May 28, 1977 to the former Bonnie Miller, and she survives.

Also surviving is his mother Audean “Betty” Defibaugh of West Freedom; four children: Melynda Budd and her husband Greg of Port Allegany, Jessica Defibaugh of Pittsburgh, Jennifer Larkin and her husband Robert of Oil City, and Joseph Defibaugh and his wife Emily of Franklin; three grandchildren, Nick and Ethan Budd and Kalea Larkin; three brothers, Dave Defibaugh and his wife Linda, Gary Defibaugh and his wife Karen, and Chuck Defibaugh and his wife Theresa, all of Parker; a sister, Brenda Kosciolek and her husband Ray of Marysville; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, John A. Defibaugh.

Friends will be received Friday (Feb. 26) from 2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home Saturday (Feb. 27) at 10 a.m. with Pastor Rich Tygert and Pastor Denny Weaver officiating.

Interment will follow in Venus Cemetery.
