John “Jack” H. Gerg, age 91, of Brookville, PA passed away during the early morning hours of Thursday, July 13, 2017 in Brookville.

Born June 3, 1926 in Brookville to the late Hilary and Fern (Crawford) Gerg, Jack attended the Brookville School District before enlisting in the United States Navy during his senior year to serve in World War II, graduating after his service and honorable discharge.

He married Doris (Caldwell) Gerg on September 20, 1952. She survives.

Retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources, he spent most of his career as an oil and gas inspector.

Jack was socially active in the community, holding memberships with Reynoldsville Elks Lodge #519, Brookville Fireman’s Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles #983 in Brookville and Redlick Hunting Club.

He was known for his conversational abilities and genuine interest in learning about others.

He greatly valued his family, friends and community, always encouraging and supporting those he knew to pursue their passions.

He enjoyed regularly attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and was a member of Pinecrest Country Club.

Jack also enjoyed hunting, fishing and many other activities involving the outdoors, and had an extensive knowledge of the local landscape.

Jack will be fondly remembered for his love of family and friends and sharing knowledge and advice whenever possible.

In addition to wife Doris, Jack is survived by two sons, Hilary “Hud” (Gretchen) Gerg of Woodruff, SC; Tom (Beth) Gerg of Brookville, PA; two daughters, Susan Gerg of Asheville, NC and Anne (Darren) Lyle of Brookville and three grandchildren, Chase Lyle, Dane Lyle and Christian Gerg.

In addition to his parents, Jack is preceded in death by one sister, Marjorie Clock; one son, Jay Alan Gerg and one grandson, Connor Jay Gerg.

Family and friends will be received on Sunday, July 16 from 1-3pm and 5-7pm at the McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA 15825.

A funeral service will be held Monday, July 17, 2017 at McKinney – d’Argy Funeral Home at 11:00 am, officiated by Pastor Nathan Royster.

Interment will take place at the Brookville Cemetery, Jefferson County, PA. Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Brookville YMCA.
