John L. “Jack” Butler, 91, of Oil City passed away quietly in his home on Monday August 14, 2017.

He is “home” with his beloved wife “Peg” who preceded him in death on Aug. 4. They were side by side for 59 years.

He and his wife owned and operated Butlers’ Candies in Oil City for 35 Years. His store was in the Latonia Building for many years and more recently on Seneca St.

Born on Oct. 18, 1925 in Lawrenceville, PA., he was the son of the late Allen & Anna Mary Schwartz Butler.

He moved to Oil City as a young child.

Jack had worked for Pennzoil for several years in Houston, TX. before coming back to the Oil City area, and then a few years at the Oil City Hospital.

He married his wife the former Margaret M. Bohlman on August 23, 1958.

Jack enjoyed his antique Lincoln, enjoyed reading, especially about history.

He loved to paint with Pastels, and did a portrait of President John F. Kennedy while he was in office and received correspondence from the White House acknowledging his gift.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother Regis Butler and by two sisters Virginia Huber and Dolly Hollenbaugh.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

There will be no viewing or visitation.

Interment will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery in Fryburg.

The Reinsel Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of the arrangements.
