Member_144680John W. Evankovich Sr., 77, of Criswell Rd., Karns City, Perry Twp., Armstrong Co., passed away at 10:35 a.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital in Kittanning surrounded by his loving family.

John was born on November 3, 1937 in Criswell, Armstrong Co. on the same acreage where he had currently resided. He was the son of the late John and Vinka Trinajstic Evankovich.

John was a 1955 graduate of Fairview Twp. Karns City High School. He was a long time active member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Bradys Bend and had served on parish council and the finance committee. He had served as a Perry Twp. supervisor for many years. He was a member of the Sons of Italy in Bradys Bend and the Bradys Bend American Legion. John was employed as a supervisor in the sulfonate and shipping departments at Witco in Petrolia, now Sonneborn, and retired following 41 years of service. He had served as the president of the Witco Credit Union. In his earlier years John was employed at Seybert’s Sunoco in Bradys Bend and Freiter’s Sunoco in Petrolia. John enjoyed farming and hunting and was an avid NASCAR fan. He most especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports.

John is survived by his wife, Saundra J. Hillwig Evankovich, whom he married in Bradys Bend on September 28, 1957. Also surviving are five children, Candy Grenninger and her husband, Jim, of Karns City, Christine Evankovich-Edwards, M.D. and her husband, Jorgen Olsson, M.D. of Elkins, WV, John W. Evankovich Jr. and his wife, Mitzi, of Karns City, Joseph L. Evankovich and his wife, Jennette, of Karns City, Michael R. Evankovich, M.D. and his wife, Krissy, of Waterford; eighteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a brother, Michael E. Evankovich and his wife, Marie, of Bradys Bend; two sisters, G. Irene Evankovich and Phyllis Bayes and her husband, Rick, all of Weaver, Alabama, as well as a number of nieces, nephews, cousins, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Evankovich, a grandson, Zachary Evankovich, and three sisters, Mary Anderson, Margaret Pollock, and Edna Zidek.

Friends will be received at the Hile Funeral Home of Chicora, 339 Chicora Fenelton Rd., Chicora, from 6 – 8 p.m. Saturday and from Noon – 2 and 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 915 SR 68, East Brady, PA 16028 with the Rev. John M. Butler celebrating. Private family interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bradys Bend.
