Jon D. Rupert, “Rupe”, 57 of Saxonburg, passed away on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with colon cancer.

Jon was born in Brookville, PA, on June 9, 1960, the son of the late Leland L. and Judith (Dunn) Rupert. He was a graduate of Clarion High School. After high school, Jon attended and graduated from West Virginia University, where he was a proud member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. After college, Jon served as the treasurer of Sugar Creek Borough, in Franklin, PA and the Business Manager of Union School District, in Rimersburg, PA. For the past 31 years, he served as the Business Manager and Secretary of the Board for Highlands School District, in Natrona Heights, PA. During that time he earned his Masters Degree in Public Management and Policy from Carnegie Mellon University.

Jon was a member of many professional organizations including, the PA Association of School Business Officials, the Association of School Business Officials International, PA School Boards Association, PA Registered School Business Administrator, Highlands Community Educational Foundation Officer, West Penn Power Consumer Advisory Board of Directors, and was a Leadership Alle-Kiski Valley Graduate. In addition, Jon was a member of the Saxonburg Sportsman Club and was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was a proud member of National Rifle Association as well.

Jon loved spending time with his family and friends and spent many years coaching his children. While his children were young, he was a beloved coach and President of the Saxonburg Spartans. He coached Saxonburg Baseball and Knoch Youth Basketball as well. Jon loved his hometown of Clarion and being from the Spaghetti Hill neighborhood. The friendships he formed during his life were a huge part of who he was. He loved to hunt, fish, cheer on the Mountaineers, and ride his Harley with his motorcycle gang. Over the last few years, Jon spent time traveling with his family and loved spending time with his two beautiful granddaughters, Haley and Harper, whom he loved so much. Jon respected and loved his family and friends. He will be greatly missed and would want everyone to remember to “keep the shiny side up.”

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kelley (Estadt) Rupert. He is also survived by his three children, Lindsay Jankowski (Joe) of Wexford, PA, Mark Rupert of Apollo, PA and Jake Rupert of Pittsburgh, PA; granddaughters, Haley and Harper Jankowski; brother Leland E. Rupert (Jean) of Clarion, PA, sisters Bonnie Tompkins (Terry) of Kennesaw, GA, Patty Abel (David) of Acworth, GA, Judy Wolbert (Paul) of Marble, PA; mother-in-law, Mame Estadt of Shippenville, PA ; brother-in-law, Dave Estadt, of Clarion, PA and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leland L. Rupert and Judith (Dunn) Rupert; his nephew Daniel Tompkins; father-in-law, Daniel Estadt, and brother-in-law, Danny Estadt.

Arrangements are under the care of the care of the Goble Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 330 Wood Street in Clarion where visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Immaculate Conception Church, 715 Main Street, Clarion, with Father Monty Sayers officiating. Interment will be in the Clarion Cemetery.
