Karen F. Atkin, 75, a lifelong resident of Tidioute, PA, after moving to Tidioute in the 1950’s, died suddenly on Monday, February 5, 2018, at the Titusville Area Hospital in Titusville, PA.

She was born December 16, 1942, in Sandusky, Ohio, daughter of the late Francis Kraus and Frances (Eckert) Kraus Atkin.

Karen graduated from Tidioute High School in 1960 then worked for the Blair Corp (formerly New Process) for 47 years retiring in 2006. She was a member of St. John’s Roman Catholic Church in Tidioute where she taught Catechism and served as a Eucharistic Minister for several years until her health began to fail her. She was an avid reader and life-long learner. She also loved animals especially horses and dogs. She was proud of her Irish heritage and enjoyed tracing her genealogical roots.

Surviving are a brother, Frank H. Atkin of Tidioute, a sister, Janet A. Marquis and her husband James A. of Lander, PA, a brother-in-law, Jim R. Martin, also of Tidioute, several nieces and nephews; Eric, Jason, Jessica, and Eli Martin; Jennifer Lauffenburger; Jeff and Jamie Marquis; Jill Grant; Frank Atkin and Misty Clark, and several great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Lela “Zeb” Martin, and her canine companion, Wrangler.

Friends will be received at St. John’s RC Church in Tidioute Friday, February 9, 2018, from 10:00 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial with Father Joseph Kalinowski celebrating the mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial at Swedish Union Cemetery of Tidioute will follow. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman J. Wimer Funeral Home of Tionesta, PA.
