Karns City Girls’ Win 20th D9 Soccer Title in Last 23 Years; Gremlin Boys Fall in Title Game

BROCKWAY, Pa. (D9Sports) – The Karns City girls’ soccer machine rolls on.

Behind a pair of goals from Haley Scherer and a third from Hannah Knoll, the Lady Gremlins captured their 20th District 9 title in the last 23 years and their second in a row in Class 2A with a 3-0 win over Clearfield at Brockway’s Varischetti Field.

Cambree Powers recorded the shutout in net, as Karns City defeated Clearfield for the second straight year by the same exact score.

The Lady Gremlins move into the PIAA playoffs where they will take on the WPIAL runner-up – either Freedom or Waynesburg – Tuesday, Nov. 7 at a site and time to be determined.

GREMLIN BOYS FALL TO ST. MARYS

BROCKWAY, Pa. – Scoring three goals in a span of 2:45, St. Marys ended Karns City’s run of three straight District 9 boys’ soccer titles with a 3-1 win over the Gremlins at Brockway’s Varischetti Field.

Vinni Nunez scored twice for the Dutch and Jackson Lindemuth added a goal.

St. Marys will take on the WPIAL runner-up – either Quaker Valley or Shady Side Academy – in the opening round of the PIAA playoffs Tuesday, Nov. 7, at a site and time to be determined.
