CRANBERRY, Pa. (EYT) – A long line of emergency vehicles with their lights flashing pulled into the Walmart in Cranberry Monday evening. However, far from being the emergency situation this scene usually portrays, these were local heroes headed to meet 35 youngsters for an evening of shopping.

The children ranged in age from five to 15. Each was paired with a local hero — a law enforcement officer, a firefighter or military member, for a few hours of shopping.

Each child was given a $100.00 Walmart gift certificate provided by the Walmart Gives Foundation and other local civic groups. They also got a Subway gift card so they could share a meal with their hero before heading home for the night.
