KNOX, Pa. (EYT) — A Knox man is facing charges of resisting arrest and related offenses after allegedly kicking a police officer who was serving an arrest warrant to him.

Online court documents indicate the Knox Borough Police Department filed criminal charges against 31-year-old Robert L. Ashbaugh, Jr., of Knox.

According to a criminal complaint, around 4:34 p.m. on Thursday, August 18, officers of the Knox Borough Police Department were on a routine patrol and observed Robert Ashbaugh — who had warrants out of Venango County — standing at the back of a green Ford Escort.

Officers made contact with Ashbaugh, and it was “explained to (him) that (they) had warrants. Ashbaugh stated…that he was planning on paying the fines on Friday,” according to the complaint.

While the officer was attempting to place Ashbaugh under arrest, “Ashbaugh tensed up and attempted to pull his right arm away. Once (he) was placed under arrest, (he) began to yell profanities,” the complaint continues.

The officer advised “Ashbaugh several times to calm down and quit swearing because customers at neighboring businesses were able to hear him. Ashbaugh continued to yell profanities,” the complaint states.

As the officer was escorting Ashbaugh to the patrol vehicle, he began to push back….then, Ashbaugh began to jump up and down. He struck the officer with his foot, and then the officer wrapped his right arm around Ashbaugh’s upper body,” the complaint indicates.

“Ashbaugh continued to pull away and (struck the officer) again with a backwards kick. The officer then placed Ashbaugh onto the hood of the patrol vehicle where (he) became even more aggressive. The officer informed Ashbaugh he needed to calm down and that he was going to be receiving more charges. During a search of Ashbaugh, the officer located blue in color straw with white residue in (his) left front pocket,” according to the complaint.

Court documents indicate a criminal complaint was filed against Ashbaugh in District Judge Amy Long Turk’s office.

He faces the following charges:

  • Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2
  • Disorderly Conduct-Hazardous/Physically Offensive
  • Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia, Misdemeanor

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on September 13, in front of District Judge Turk.
