Knox Man Victim of $785,000 Sweepstakes Scam

MONROE TWP., Pa. (EYT) – A Knox man has been the victim of a $785,000.00 sweepstakes scam, according to Clarion-based State Police.

Police say around 12:00 p.m. on August 23, a known Knox man reported being the victim of a scam.

The man said he received a mailing from American Family Sweepstakes and Promotions stating that he won $785,000.00 in prize money. He was reportedly contacted by phone and swindled into making payments totaling $4,800.00 in order to receive the alleged prize.

Police remind residents to please be cognizant of the many types of phone and mail scams that exist.

If you are unsure of what action to take regarding strange phone calls or mailings, wait and contact a family member, friend, or the police. Do not make hurried decisions or be bullied into paying money or giving personal information for a promise of a prize.
