KNOX, Pa. (EYT) –The Knox Police Department will host the first annual Knox Police Department Fill-A-Car with food program Oct. 12, 2013 at the Knox Tom’s Riverside parking lot from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We are hoping that individuals will bring non-perishable food items and place them into our police car,” said Police Chief Jeff Prugh. “We will then donate the food items to a local food bank.”

The event may evolve into an annual effort or, depending on its success, may also be conducted near the Christmas season.  Prugh said people who want to help with the food drive should either bring items to donate or purchase them while in the store.

Knox Police will park the car outside of the store until it is filled with donated non-perishable items and then take the food to local food pantries.

“We want to try some new things to help out our local community and all donate food will remain in our community,” said Prugh.
