Kossuth Resident Holds Intruder at Gunpoint

KOSSUTH, Pa. (EYT) – An intruder got a lot more than he was bargaining for when he entered an Ashland Township residence on Sunday night.

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:47 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, Clarion-based State Police Trooper Katherine Pettis was dispatched to a residence located on Homestead Lane in Kossuth, Ashland Township, for a reported burglary.

When Trooper Pettis arrived at the residence, 23-year-old Alec Jeffrey Biter, of Mineral Point, Cambria County, was lying on the floor with the homeowner standing over him at gunpoint. She handcuffed, read Biter his Miranda rights, and interviewed him. He stated that he had driven from Ebensburg to meet his boyfriend, and he believed this was the residence where he lived. He also said he had taken prescription medication before entering the home.

The homeowners stated that they were lying in bed when they saw a motion light go off. They looked up and saw Biter standing in the doorway of their home, the complaint indicates.

They asked Biter who he was and why he was in their house. Biter then retreated to the living room where the homeowner held him at gunpoint and told him to get on the ground until state police arrived. They also said Biter had taken his shoes and coat off in the living room, the complaint continues.

According to court documents, the following charges were filed against Biter:

– Criminal Trespass-Enter Structure, Felony 3
– Loitering And Prowling At Night Time, Misdemeanor 3
– Disorderly Conduct Hazardous/Physi Offense, Summary
– Public Drunkenness And Similar Misconduct, Summary
– Travel On Cultivated Land, Summary

Unable to post $10,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Clarion County Jail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, in front of Magisterial District Judge Amy Long Turk.
