LaRue Smith Daw

LaRue Smith Daw, 92, of Butler, Pa., formerly of Shippenville, passed away at home Wednesday, August 26, surrounded by her family.

Born September 15, 1922, in Rimersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of Ralph Harry (Hicks) and Elsie MaGee Mortimer.

Mrs. Daw was a member of the Clarion Presbyterian Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 267 of Clarion, Pa.

She worked in the Clarion University Bookstore for 23 years.

She is survived by two daughters, Molly (Sam) Lovric of Butler, Pa. and Beth (George) Gumpl of Schulenburg, Texas; son­in­law Merle George of Georgetown, Texas; two sisters Judy Rankin of Eaton Rapids, Michigan and Phyllis Smith of State College; two brothers, James (Barb) Mortimer of East Brady and Paul(Joan) Mortimer of Gay, West Virginia. Also survived by Buddie (Maureen) Daw of Laconia, New Hampshire, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was blessed with seven grandchildren, Doug George, Dan George, Michele (Lovric) Strong, Sam Lovric III, Stephanie (Knight) Cain, Emily Knight and Veronica Gumpl; also eleven great grandchildren, Madison Lovric, Meghan, MacKenzie, Maura and Madelyn Conley, Leah George, Katie Smith, Emma, Molly and Max George and Max Wilkinson. In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death by husbands Max G. Smith and Harry W. Daw; her daughter, Brenda J. George; sisters Faye Miller, Vivian Stewart and Geraldine Hosack.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 28 at Geibel Funeral Home, 201 East Cunningham Street, Butler. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Nephew, Rev. Elliot Smith of Clinton, South Carolina will officiate. Interment will be in the Rimersburg Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice at Medi Home Health in Butler.
