MERCER CO., Pa. – With the national “Click It or Ticket” seat belt enforcement mobilization underway, 19 police officers from 12 departments gathered together at the Interstate 80 Welcome Center in Mercer County this week to raise awareness of seat belt safety and enforcement efforts.

Officers at the gathering represented five police departments in Pennsylvania and seven in Ohio, including:

  • Grove City Police Department, Mercer County, PA;
  • Hermitage Police Department, Mercer County, PA;
  • Jefferson County Police Department, Mercer County, PA;
  • Pennsylvania State Police in Mercer, PA;
  • Union Township Police Department, Lawrence County, PA;
  • Vienna Township Police Department, Ohio;
  • Cortland Police Department, Ohio;
  • Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio;
  • Brookfield Police Department, Ohio;
  • Warren Police Department, Ohio;
  • Warren Township Police Department, Ohio; and
  • Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The departments will participate in a Border-to-Border initiative from 4:00 p.m. through 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 21, which is part of the undergoing “Click It or Ticket” law enforcement wave that continues through June 3, 2018.

During “Click It or Ticket,” law enforcement adopts a zero-tolerance approach toward violators: driving or riding unbuckled will result in a ticket, no matter what state they travel through.

Pennsylvania law requires drivers and passengers younger than 18 to buckle up when riding in a vehicle. After turning 18, drivers and passengers must wear a seat belt when behind the wheel or in the front passenger seat.
