HENDERSONlawrenceLawrence (Larry) Gregg Henderson, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 26, 2019 at UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, after a long courageous battle with cancer.

He was born on August 21, 1962 to Lawrence G. Henderson, Sr. and Mary T. (Terrie) Jones Henderson in Franklin and they both survive.

Larry worked in many places including: Riverside Market, Seneca Printing, Eden, Inc., Conagra Foods in Junction City, KS; Anderson Furniture and most recently at Mercer Forge in Mercer, PA. Larry had a strong work ethic even working while undergoing treatments until his health no longer permitted.

He was a longtime member of VFW Post 1835 and the Eagles Club in Franklin, PA; and was also a member of the American Legion Post 159 and VFW Post 6345 in Mercer.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church where he served as an altar boy in his younger years, graduating from St. Patrick’s School in 1976.

Larry lived his life fully and on his own terms. He loved sports and was an avid Pitt, Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins fan. He participated in a fantasy football league. He had a passion for baseball, participating in little league and the Jr.-Sr. Leagues, as well as playing for Franklin High School. He also played softball for many years after graduating from FHS in 1980. He enjoyed weightlifting and had participated in many 5K races through the years.

Larry loved watching horror movies and had an extensive movie collection. He also loved rock-n-roll music and had many friends in local bands that he enjoyed following.

In addition to his parents, Larry is survived by his Stepfather, Tom Sloan; a sister, Lisa Burchfield and husband, Wes; brothers: Mike Henderson and wife, Janet and their son, Chip Abramovic; and Joe Henderson; and 3 nephews, Kyle, Sam and Logan. He is also survived by his Stepbrother, Scott Sloan and wife Ronnie; all of Franklin and by a Stepsister, Julie Daly of Meadville; an Uncle Paul Jones and wife, Becky of Titusville, and “Uncle” Terry Kearney of Allentown; and also by his best friend, Geno Ray of Franklin. Larry is also survived by many loving step-nieces and nephews, extended family members, close cousins as well as good friends.

Larry was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Howard and Marion Henderson; maternal grandparents, John Paul and Ellen S. Jones; an “Uncle” Gary Kearney, a Stepsister, Sherri L. Rodgers and by a Stepbrother, Mark Sloan.

As per his wishes there will be no visitation.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 11 AM in St. Patrick Church, 949 Liberty Street, Franklin, with Monsignor John J. Herbein, pastor, officiating.

Immediately following Mass, all are welcome for a luncheon and time of fellowship at Cenedella Hall at St. Patrick’s School. Please feel free to wear your Black and Gold, as Larry would like that!

Private burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery.

Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to either: The Kirtland Cancer Foundation, The American Cancer Society of Oil City or a charity of one’s choice.
