Leo W HarsenLeo Walter Harsen, 85, of 180 Lytle Ave, Cooperstown, died at 7:42 am, Monday, January 23, 2017, at the Titusville Area Hospital.

Born September 14, 1931 in Franklinville NY, he was a son of the late Walter H. and Mildred Houghton Harsen.

Mr. Harsen served in the US Air Force during the Koran Conflict.

He retired from IBM after 35 years of service.

Mr. Harsen was a member of the Cooperstown Church of God.

He was a volunteer fireman for a combined 55 years at the Westfield Volunteer Fire Department and then the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Harsen enjoyed motorcycles, hunting, and woodworking, and volunteered for the American Red Cross.

On July 14, 1979, he married the former Beverly J. Groves, who survives.

In addition to his wife are the following children, Kathleen Osborne who died in 2015 and her son, Jason, Richard Harsen and wife Deborah and their children, Emily, Benjamin and Brittany, Wayne Newberry and children Bryan and Jennifer, Cynthia Faunce and children, Christopher and Laurie, Lynn Cole and husband Ken and their children Travis and Holly, Thomas Newberry who died in 2008 and children, Jennifer and Shane, Connie Newberry, James Newberry and children Zachery, Micahla, Olivia and Kyle, and Brenda Sibley and husband Mark and their children, Ryan, Heather, Sarah and Matthew; and 22 great grandchildren.

Also, surviving are three sisters, Irene Gregg of Jamestown NY, Margaret Langworthy and Corinne Hall, both of Lakewood NY.

In addition to his parents and two children, he was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Marjorie Johnson and Ruth Crisafulli, who died within minutes of her brother.

Friends may call at the Morrison Funeral Home on Thursday from 7 to 9 pm and on Friday from 12 noon to 1 pm.

Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 1 pm with the Rev. Barry Markle, pastor of the Cooperstown Church of God, officiating.

Full military honors will be accorded by the VETS Honor Guard.

Interment will be in the Cooperstown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Cooperstown Volunteer Fire Department or the Cooperstown Church of God.
