Letter to the Editor: Franklin Silver Cornet Band Deemed a Local Treasure

| November 29, 2018

Last Friday night at the Barrow-Civic Theatre, the Franklin Silver Cornet Band performed their 40th annual Pops Concert.

What a local treasure they are, and in this, their 162nd year of musical service to the community, they are to be heartily commended. I’m not sure everyone fully appreciates the skill and dedication this group of local musicians brings to the Venango County arts scene. It is an asset of which we all can be rightfully proud.

What impressed me greatly was the significant number of young high school musicians participating in the band.

In spite of all the negativity that fills the news with regularity, it is accomplished performances like this pops concert that inspire us and provide hope for the future of our young people and our community.

Conductor Terri Wittreich is to be applauded for her leadership and the recognition she received during the concert for her 50 years of faithful service to the Silver Cornet Band. Well done Terri.
