Link Helps A-C Valley Baseball Upset KSAC Champion C-L; Franklin Wins 16th in a Row

EMLENTON, Pa. (D9Sports) – Brandon Link drove in a pair of runs to help A-C Valley upset KSAC champion Clarion-Limestone, 6-3.

The Falcons did what few teams have been able to accomplish this season, get to Lions sophomore Hayden Callen.

Callen, who hadn’t given up an earned run since April 24 covering a span of 19 innings and who had only given up two over his last three appearances, was charged with four runs, all earned, on five hits and two walks while striking out four in three innings of work. His no earned runs allowed streak ended at 19 ⅔ innings when A-C Valley strung together three straight singles with two outs in the first to take an early 2-0 lead.

Callen gave up four earned runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four.

Sam Anderson, who had one of those singles, finished the day 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. Levi Orton also scored twice and drove in a run for the Falcons.

Meanwhile, three A-C Valley pitchers kept C-L at bay.

Luke Whitcomb started and pitched a scoreless inning plus despite walking three. He did strike out a batter. Broc Weigle got the win going 4 ⅓ innings of one-hit ball. He walked four and struck out seven. Riley Bauer then went 1 ⅔ innings giving up three runs on two hits and four walks.

Bryson Huwar was 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI for C-L. Ben Smith also had an RBI for the Lions.


SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Franklin secured its 16th straight win with a 4-1 decision at Slippery Rock.

Ian Haynes and Austin Rhoads combined on a four-hitter for the Knights.

Haynes got the win going six innings allowing an earned run on two hits and three walks while striking out one.

Rhoads picked up the save going a scoreless inning allowing two hits while striking out two.

Kaden Keely was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI for Franklin, while Zachery Taylor went 2-for-3 with a walk, a run scored and an RBI.

The Knights are now 17-1 on the season. The Knights start District 10 Class 3A playoff action at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Slippery Rock University against the winner of Friday’s game between Greenville and North East.
