CARLTON, Pa. (EYT) — The French Creek Council of Boy Scouts is seeking the public’s help to repair a bridge that leads into their reservation recently destroyed by heavy rains.

According to a published article on The Meadville Tribune, heavy rains have washed away an access bridge within Custaloga Town Scout Reservation.

The northern area of Custaloga Town has been closed until a bridge is installed or repairs are made. Thus, the camp’s dining hall, the camp hall, the health hall, and the shooting sports areas are closed.

The Meadville Tribune reports that the 525-acre Custaloga Town Scout Reservation is traversed in its middle by Deer Creek with an access road connecting the northern and southern portions of the camp.

The reservation mainly operates from June to August as a 10-week summer camp for the Boy Scouts; still it is open year-round.

Although the council is are currently working with the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) and exploring many options — including retired commercial bridges and temporary to permenant bridges that would be approved to carry camp traffic — there is no indication of when the situation will be settled.

Initial estimates are up to $200,000.00 to repair or replace.

In an effort to remedy the problem, French Creek Council of Boy Scouts has started a fundraiser on the GoFundMe.com with a goal of $160,000.00.
