Lois Maxine WagnerLois Maxine Seigworth Wagner, 84, of Oil City was born into eternal life on April 20, 2017.

Daughter of the late Lois (Amsler) and Victor Seigworth, she was born on August 15, 1932 in Venus.

A devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Venus, Maxine began singing in the choir and teaching Sunday school while still in her teens. She served as the organist at the Church building dedication services in 1950. It was at Faith Lutheran Church where she met Wade “Smokey” Wagner of Tionesta, and they were married in the sanctuary on November 3, 1953. They attended faithfully throughout their lives.

The couple was known locally as owners of Wagner’s Archery in Oil City, which they ran together for over fifty years. But Maxine’s true joy was in being a homemaker and mother. She was happiest digging in her flowerbeds and mowing the lawn, growing and canning vegetables, cooking and baking, making clothes and hats, and even doing routine housework. She generously showered attention and affection on her family, as well as on her beloved pomeranians and kitties.

A graduate of Shippenville High School and the Oil City Hospital School of Nursing, Maxine worked at Oil City Hospital early in her career and later did private duty work. If asked when she had retired from nursing, Maxine would always wave her hand and say, “Never. Once a nurse always a nurse. You keep taking care of your family and friends your whole life.” Indeed, she faithfully tended to Smokey daily after incapacitating illness required his move to Oakwood Heights in 2006. She had done the likewise for her father, who spent the last year of his life at “Presby.” When a series of hospitalizations prompted her own move there last winter, she was already well known and loved by the staff, who in turn have cared lovingly for her.

Maxine is survived by her husband Wade of Oil City; daughter Victoria of Boston; sister Betty Eisenman and her husband Leon of President; brother-in-law Edwin Wagner and his wife Janice of Tionesta; sisters-in-law Dorothy Baumgardner of Philadelphia and Marion Amsler of Oil City; nephews David Wagner and his wife Jody of Seneca, Jeff Eisenman and his wife Alicia of President, Randy Amsler and his wife Cindy of Oil City, and James Baumgardner of Pittsburgh; nieces Brenda Agnello and her husband Jason of Oil City, and Roberta Baumgardner Holcombe and her husband Howard of Leesburg, VA; as well as eight grand nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, 1579 County Line Rd., Venus on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11:00AM with Rev. Deborah Jacobson officiating. Interment will follow at the Venus Cemetery following the service.

Donations in Maxine’s memory could be made to Faith Lutheran Church, Oakwood Heights (10 Vo-Tech Drive, Oil City, PA 16301), or to The Arthritis Foundation (P.O. 96280, Washington, DC 20077).
