OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – Franklin-based State Police say a 23-year-old man is behind bars on statutory sexual assault charges.

Steven Nathan Padenich, 23, of Greenville, is facing the following charges in relation to the case:

  • Statutory Sexual Assault: 4-8 Years Older, Felony 2
  • Aggravated Indecent Assault – Complainant Less Than 16, Felony 2
  • Corruption Of Minors – Defendant Age 18 or Above, Felony 3 (two counts)

According to a criminal complaint filed Tuesday by Trooper O’Toole, the victim told police that she and Padenich arranged to meet in Oil City on April 16.

The victim stated that Padenich drove her to Erie, Pa., where he booked a hotel room. She told police that the two slept in separate beds that night.

During an interview with Oil City Police Officer Love, Padenich told police that he met with the victim at McDonald’s in Oil City and then drove her to the Holiday Inn on Peach Street in Erie.

Padenich reportedly admitted to bathing with the victim at the hotel twice and having sexual intercourse with her.

The criminal complaint states that Padenich said the two had planned to stay at the hotel for two nights until the victim’s mother began calling and demanded that she return home.

Padenich told police that he knew the victim was 15 years old, according to the criminal complaint.

He was lodged in the Venango County Jail after failing to post $25,000.00 cash bail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for April 26 at 8:30 a.m. with Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish.
