Man Accused of Striking Oil City Police Officer in Head Waives Hearing

hencFRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) – A 54-year-old man behind bars for allegedly assaulting an Oil City Police officer waived his preliminary hearing Wednesday in Venango County Central Court.

Around 5:14 p.m. on March 26, Oil City Police Officers responded to a call about a person who was possibly intoxicated at the intersection of East First Street and State Street.

Officers made contact with Matthew R. Henc, 54, of Pittsburgh, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance. Additionally, there was an outstanding bench warrant for his arrest.

Police say Henc was arrested and taken to the Police Department where he became involved in a physical altercation with a number of officers and hit one in the head and face area.

Henc was arraigned at 1:22 p.m. on March 27 in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland on the following charges:

– Aggravated Assault, Felony 2
– Simple Assault, Misdemeanor 2
– Resist Arrest/Other Law Enforcement, Misdemeanor 2
– Intentional Possession Controlled Substance By Person Not Registered
– Use/Possession Of Drug Paraphernalia

Henc waived charges those charges and additional drug charges April 12 in a prelminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland.

Henc remains lodged in the Venango County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.

The case has been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.
