FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — An inmate at the Venango County Jail waived his preliminary hearing on new charges this week in relation to an incident where he allegedly threatened to “stomp” a man’s head in and burn his house with his family inside.

Court documents indicate the following charge against 30-year-old Joshua Wayne Godfrey, of Franklin, was waived for court on Wednesday, July 10:

– Terroristic Threats With Intent To Terrorize Another, Misdemeanor 1

The charge has been transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

Godfrey remains lodged in the Venango County Jail pending $5,000.00 monetary bail.

According to a criminal complaint released on July 8, the incident happened at the Venango County Jail in early June.

Around 11:48 a.m. on June 6, Ptlm. Barnes of the Franklin Police Department was dispatched to the jail to speak to a known male about threats being made against him.

According to the complaint, the victim said several males made threats to harm him and his family. He identified one of the males as Joshua Godfrey, and said Godfrey specifically singled him out as he walked by in a group of other males and threatened to “stomp his head in.” Godfrey also allegedly threatened to find the victim’s home address and “rape his girlfriend and burn the house down with his family inside.”

Ptlm. Barnes also interviewed an independent witness to the incident. According to the complaint, the witness confirmed that while she was walking in close proximity to the victim, she clearly heard Godfrey threaten the victim and his family.

Godfrey was arraigned in front of Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 1.

Court documents show Godfrey has a lengthy criminal history in Venango County, and currently has several cases pending in Venango County Court of Common Pleas, including one case involving an attempted escape from the Oil City Police Station.
