OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – An 18-year-old man is facing a felony charge for concealing the whereabouts of a 13-year-old Oil City girl.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 18-year-old Daniel William Thorne, of Niles, Ohio.

According to a criminal complaint, around 9:12 p.m. on November 27, Lieutenant Love, of the Oil City Police Department, received a call concerning a missing 13-year-old girl whose mother believed that she left with her 18-year-old boyfriend, Daniel William Thorne, and was headed to the Niles, Ohio area.

Lieutenant Love then contacted the Niles Police Department concerning the juvenile. The Niles Police checked a residence believed to be Thorne’s residence but were unable to make contact.

Lieutenant Love spoke to a relative of Thorne who was living at the residence in question.

According to the complaint, the relative denied having contact with Thorne or the juvenile. The relative was warned about concealing the whereabouts of a child.

On November 29, Lieutenant Love received a report from Sargeant Fisher, of the Hubbard City, Ohio Police, stating that Thorne and the girl were found hiding in a shower. Thorne was arrested for giving a false name, and the girl was taken into custody, according to the complaint.

Around 9:18 p.m. on Monday, December 10, Lieutenant Love received a call from a resident of Fern Drive, Oil City, who reported that Thorne was at her residence and refusing to leave.

Due to the nature of the allegation and the chance of flight, Lieutenant Love requested a warrant for Thorne’s arrest.

Thorne was arraigned at 11:50 p.m. on Monday, December 10, in Magisterial District Judge Matthew T. Kirtland’s office.

He faces one third-degree felony count of concealment of the whereabouts of a child.

Unable to post $5,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 19, with Judge Kirtland presiding.
