Man Falls Asleep at Wheel in Scrubgrass Township, Crashes into Guide Rail

SCRUBGRASS TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Franklin-based State Police say around 12:41 a.m. on April 18, a one-vehicle accident occurred on Interstate 80 East, 2822 feet west of Rockdale Road, in Scrubgrass Township, Venango County.

According to police, 35-year-old James C. Richards, of Rodgersville, TN, was traveling eastbound on I-80 in a 2014 Dodge Journey and fell asleep at the wheel.

His vehicle traveled off the south berm, impacting the guide rail. The vehicle took out 200 feet of guide rail before coming to a final rest, police say.

He was using a seat belt and was not injured.

He was charged with Careless Driving.
