Man Jailed After Allegedly Assaulting Victim, Attempting to Steal Vehicle in Barkeyville

BARKEYVILLE, Pa. (EYT) — According to State Police, an attempted robbery of a motor vehicle occurred yesterday morning at a gas station, located on State Route 8, in Barkeyville Borough, Venango County.

PSP Franklin say 23-year-old Tan C. Nguyen, of Randolph, Massachusetts, allegedly stole a 2011 Grand Jeep Cherokee from a gas station parking lot in Randolph, Ma., sometime in the evening hours of Friday, January 13.

According to police, around 9:30 a.m., on Saturday, January 14, Nguyen stopped at the Speedway Gas Station in Barkeyville Borough and attempted to take a 51-year-old Mercer man’s vehicle as the victim was inside the gas station.

When Nguyen was unable to get into the locked vehicle, he waited for the Mercer man to return. Nguyen confronted him, and a physical altercation ensued. Nguyen eventually fled on foot, police say.

Nguyen was located nearby the scene of the incident and was taken into custody.

He was charged with the following offenses:

  • Criminal Attempt- Robbery of Motor Vehicle
  • Criminal Attempt- Theft by Unlawful Taking
  • Unauthorized Use of Automobile
  • Receiving Stolen Property
  • Stalking
  • Simple Assault
  • Harassment

Nguyen was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Andrew Fish.

Unable to post $150,000.00 monetary bail, he was lodged in the Venango County Jail.
