Man, Niece Injured in ATV Crash Near Wanango Country Club

17435908_10158379224230375_1224503094353022251_oRENO, Pa. (EYT) — A man and his niece were injured in an ATV crash Thursday evening near Wanango Country Club along Route 8 in Reno, Venango County.

According to a report from Sugarcreek Borough Police Lt. Ryan Ashbaugh, 54-year-old Ralph Shields, of Franklin, was operating an ATV on a trail near the fourth green of the golf course when it overturned on a steep hillside.

Shields and his niece, an 11-year-old from Oil City, were both injured in the accident.

Rescue crews from the Oil City Fire Department and Rocky Grove Volunteer Fire Department worked to pull Shields up the steep hill.

Shields was placed on a backboard and taken to the golf course where he was transported to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh by STAT MedEvac.

Asbaugh said the 11-year-old girl was taken to Meadville Medical Center by Community Ambulance.

According to Venango County 911, Reno Volunteer Fire Department also assisted at the scene. Rescue workers and police were at the scene for about three hours.
